2023 Private Company Director Compensation Survey

In Canada, a significant portion of businesses are privately-held. Increasingly, private companies are adopting advisory or fiduciary boards to improve their corporate governance. While publicly-traded companies are required to disclose their director compensation and corporate governance practices, this information is not readily available for privately-held companies.

CGP is dedicated to delivering valuable insights and advice for clients. To meet this commitment, CGP has partnered with WATSON Advisors Inc., and Family Enterprise Canada to collect information on director compensation and governance practices at privately-held companies to provide organizations with additional visibility into market practices.

2022 Private Company Director Compensation Survey: CGP collected information on director compensation and governance practices at privately-held companies to provide organizations with visibility into Canadian market practices.

2021 Private Company Director Compensation Survey: CGP collected information on director compensation at privately-held companies to provide organizations with visibility into Canadian market practices.

2021 Total Compensation Spend Spot Survey: CGP conducted a brief spot survey on compensation spend in the Canadian market. The focus of this survey was to gain and share insight into the breakdown of compensation expenses (e.g. salaries, incentives, benefits) relative to organization revenue and net income.

COVID-19 Executive Compensation & Governance Pulse Survey — REFRESH: Our first survey was earlier in the year at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 6 months later, COVID-19 is still impacting the economy and in turn organizations across Canada. CGP is gathering information again to provide executives and Board members with insights that can guide discussions in the fall around executive pay and governance.
